Motorcycle finance loans up to $30,000
Motorcycle prices can vary from $3,000 to the tens of thousands of dollars and beyond. It’s important to carry out basic checks, whether buying through a dealership or privately. While nothing quite beats a brand new set of wheels, depreciation may be an issue, and you may find better value in the second-hand motorbike market. A well-maintained bike can last for many years, although it is important to continue proactive repairs and maintenance going forward. Nothing beats a bit of TLC!
What’s the maximum motorcycle financing available?
In theory, we are able to offer finance up to NZ$100,000, although very rarely do motorbike finance applications come anywhere near this level. Typical motorcycle financing applications tend not to exceed NZ$30,000 with many second-hand bike acquisitions costing less than NZ$10,000.
Our flexible approach to motorbike loans is appreciated by new and existing customers, but we also need to be responsible regarding affordability. Crester Credit’s loan rates are fixed on approval, at between 9.95% and 26.98%, allowing customers to plan ahead with confidence. We are upfront and transparent regarding all fees and charges, including establishment fees, repayment terms, and the level of security required. The typical loan duration tends to be around three years, although we can provide finance for up to 4 years and beyond in certain circumstances. Nothing is off the table in our flexible approach when you want to get a motorcycle loan.
Buying a new or second-hand motorbike
It is important to voice a note of caution when looking to buy a second-hand motorbike, especially if the price looks too good to be true. You also need to be aware of the long-term repair and maintenance costs, together with insurance. Whether you require a finance loan of just a few thousand dollars or tens of thousands of dollars, it is important to do your research before securing a purchase. A shiny, eye-catching exterior could hide a number of mechanical and structural issues below the surface. Consequently, when looking at second-hand motorbikes, if you lack the experience, consider taking an expert with you. They may be able to identify potential issues, address these with the seller and advise you accordingly.
Handy tips
Check all paperwork to avoid the scammers. When dealing with unknown third parties, it is important to approach with caution. Ensuring that all the relevant motorbike paperwork is in order is an important step. Is the seller the legal owner, is there a PPSR encumbrance on the vehicle that means money is still owed? Does the documentation relate to the vehicle and is there a full service history? On the verge of a significant investment, assume nothing!
Compare and contrast motorcycle prices. Historically, it was far more difficult to compare and contrast the cost of motorcycles. However, the Internet has changed the way we operate, increasing the amount of information available and making it easier to compare and contrast motorbike prices. While conscious of comparative list prices and overall packages, you may be able to negotiate an improved deal.
Interest rates on motorcycle financing. One of the reasons we retain existing customers and continue to expand our customer base is our flexible approach to motorbike finance. While fully appreciative of your situation, we are mindful of our role as a responsible lender. Interest rates vary from 9.95% to 26.98% with loans normally repaid over a period up to 48 months.
Jump on the saddle and take it for a ride. The physical and often eye-catching appearance of a well-kept motorbike can very easily draw you in. But how does the motorbike actually ride? Are there any mechanical issues? How does the suspension hold up around corners? While obvious, it is crucial that you take a motorbike for a test drive before you part with a dollar.
Service history of the motorbike. A quick skim through a motorbike’s service history might suggest regular maintenance, but what about the detail? Did the motorbike receive a full service, regular maintenance and repairs and more important, which parts have yet to be repaired? Regular repair and maintenance will significantly extend the life of any motorcycle and protect what could be a significant investment on your behalf.
Frequently Asked Questions on Motorcycle and Moped Loans
Can you get a loan or financing on an encumbered motorbike?
This happens when the motorcycle you’re trying to buy has an existing loan against it that’s not yet fully paid.
There’s a wide range of lenders in New Zealand, but it’s very rare to find one that will approve the financing of a motorbike that has an existing debt tied against it. That’s because if you default on the loan, they might have to fight the old lender for a claim on the vehicle.
The estimated repayments for old motorcycles might be cheaper than a new one, but it’s best to do a background check on it to see if there’s a catch.
Do I need a deposit for a new or used motorcycle loan?
Many lenders prefer that you put down a deposit. It’s not required, but it will help you get the best rates and lower the cost of borrowing, because then you’ll pay less interest fees overall.
Whether it’s a Yamaha, Honda, or some other brand you’re eyeing, our lending specialists can help you get the best deal.
What are the requirements for motorbike financing?
The requirements to apply for a motorcycle loan may vary depending on the lender, but at Crester, you will need to have a valid New Zealand driver’s license, photo ID, proof of income, proof of address, and a good credit score.
You may also need to provide proof of insurance and a down payment, depending on your credit score.
What types of motorbikes can be financed?
Our motorcycle loans range from standard, cruiser, sport, touring, and dual-sport bikes. However, certain restrictions apply on modified bikes. But if it’s insurable, then it’s likely that we can come up with a finance arrangement for it.
Call us to see if the motorbike you’re eyeing is eligible for financing.
How long does it take to finance a motorcycle?
The motorbike financing process usually takes 24 hours, including us checking that there isn’t any money owed (encumbrance) on the vehicle. There shouldn’t be any delays as long as you have all the required personal finance documents ready and you respond to any additional questions we might have.
